UPDATE! Manager called me and reduced the cleaning fee! THANK YOU for the quick response. I did NOT see the dirt they were talking about (it was dark...there were not a lot of lights) and I would have cleaned it! So updating this review to reflect this quick response. I've had a couple of upsell charges with different car rental places and it's always unique and refreshing to have someone actually respond and really want to resolve things. Original: It started off well. I reserved a 12-passenger van to drive 8 people (including myself) upstate for one day. Was quoted $406.94 for one day which included late pick up and drop off (additional $65). You get 150 miles and then its $0.39 per mile. Added insurance/collision and that was an additional $49.95 so my total should have been around $502.52 (additional 117 miles). BUT, they charged me $668.13! They charged me $150 for a cleaning fee instead of $25 (with that comes increased CC and tax fees). I returned the van CLEAN other than general foot traffic for one day (approx 7 hours total round trip in the van). That is excessive. I have rented vans, cars, etc. and I have always returned the car clean. Everyone carried out all trash and bottles and I inspected the van and wanted to make sure the other 7 passengers didn't accidentally leave personal items behind. No one had any large items as it was one day. It's unreasonable to rent a van for ONE day at almost $700 and be charged $150 cleaning fee for nothing. They even sent me photos after and there's no evidence of mess. They have you submit a CC authorization (via paper and photocopies of your DL, etc.) beforehand so they can just tack on whatever they want. Note: the Pennsylvania Ave location is in a poorly lit, industrial and sketchy part off the main drag and there is no one there. It's too bad b/c it's a local place versus a chain and the van and website res were decent.

Excellent Experience. We rented a 12 passenger Mercedes Sprinter and had a last minute request change the pickup location. Van was ready at requested pick up time and new location. The diesel engine got an amazing 24 MPG saving us a TON of money as we drove from NYC to Vermont and back again.

Also had the privilege of meeting Ian, the Manager and he added to the positive experience... Their customer service was excellent and I can not think of a single complaint.

Will definitely use Empire on our next trip to the Big Apple.

I rented a Budget truck from this location for our move, and it was such a relief to have Chris and his team’s support. Moving can be incredibly stressful, but Chris was so helpful, accommodating, and attentive—he really went above and beyond to make things easier. It’s rare to find this level of genuine customer care, and it made a big difference in our experience. I highly recommend renting here and will definitely be back. I called last minute because my husband and I had an issue with another company canceling on us last min and they were so accommodating, Connie helped me and she was so sweet she got me a rental near house she helped me book last minute over the phone she was so nice to me and so patient. Very nice company can’t wait to pick up the car tomorrow thank you Empire!

We rented an 8 passenger van from the floral park location. They were extremely helpful and reasonable. They made us feel calm and confident in our abilities to drive the van, their assistance and the whole “feeling “ of the rental. They gave us the the peace of mind to start enjoying our weekend with friends from the moment we drove away! Thanks!

Last minute booking for a family of 6+. Empire came through with not only a family vehicle but the customer service was impecable. You know what I'm doing right now? I'm waiting for Kevin, the manager, to drive in on his day off and help me unlock the car I just left, because I stupidly locked my wallet in the car.

First of all, who actually knows the name of the manager of the place you rented the car from?

Second of all, this is all happening after my wife already told me that she planned on giving them a great review. She spend all day on Friday trying to find a rental for the weekend. Everyone was telling her it would cost $500-$700 dollars. And none of them had baby seats. This place has a seat that they didn't even charge for, and Kevin helped my wife install it and buckle it. I was a bit nervous knowing my wife and two kids were going to a strange, new location. So to find out that Kevin was so nice to them, well that was music to my ears.

And to top it all off, the car was nearly brand new, had only 4,600 miles, and was impeccably clean.

Five-hundred stars!

Place is amazing, spoke with Craig when I got there he made it very simple and extremely stress free. They have Great trucks for rent they are new and run smooth with no problems. Highly recommend this company to anyone looking to rent a truck at a great price. I will be back to rent in the future.

I rented a car from this company last week and the experience was wonderful. As a small business owner and as someone who grew up in a family business, I understand that "bigger" does not necessarily mean "better". In their case, this statement certainly rings true. Because they are somewhat smaller and family owned, they treated me like an actual person as the customer service was probably the greatest I've ever received, especially in the car industry. Also, I put a deposit down on the vehicle before renting. The representative quoted me 1000 free miles, but listed 500 on the contract. It was indeed suppose to only be 500, but because she accidentally said 1000, they reimbursed me the correct amount without even blinking an eye. This company not only offers top notch customer service, they're also honest. With that said, all consumers should definitely be doing business with Empire Rent A Car. I'm from Long Island and would travel the extra miles now the next time I need a rental or the next time I'm going to purchase a vehicle because of the way I was treated and because they are trust worthy. Amazing customer service and friendly staff. Today I booked a vehicle for my birthday weekend with some friends. I had a sedan and needed more space to accommodate a total of 6 people including my self. I spoke to a representative named Gloria and she was very professional. She was able to book me the perfect vehicle and answered all my questions. I am renting a vehicle from Saturday to Monday. Will update about the checking out the car and returning process when I return. But so far everything is amazing.

Empire Rental Service, managed by Chris, provided an exceptional experience for our family's long drive. Chris was not only a nice person but also ensured a clean and well-maintained car for our journey. Our trip was memorable, thanks to the comfortable ride and excellent service. I want to share my experience with Empire Rentals as a whole. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. I want to especially mention Ray. He goes the extra mile to make sure that all reservations are complete. He knows his clients and if he sees a reservation is out of the normal, he takes the time to contact the client to make sure that everything is accurate.
