New York City and the surrounding area is full of historical significance for our country. At Empire Rent A Car, we encourage our customers to explore some of the major and lesser-known historic sites while they’re here. One such historical landmark you might enjoy is former president Theodore Roosevelt’s home Sagamore Hill.
While not as flashy or well-known as the Statue of Liberty or Brooklyn Bridge, Sagamore Hill still carries with it a peek into our country's past. This Long Island estate was once the home of our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt. While originally built as his primary residence, the house also served as the "Summer White House" during the four years that Roosevelt was president. Today, you can visit Sagamore Hill and feel like you're stepping into the past. The home speaks to President Roosevelt's love for hunting. You can see mounted game as well as artwork of both domestic and exotic game. Built in the Queen Anne style, the house has a welcoming charm and is filled with intriguing and interesting antiquities. In addition to touring the home, visitors also like to enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds or a stroll on the nature trail.
Sagamore Hill is located near Oyster Bay on Long Island. Driving is certainly the easiest way to get to this national historic site, and you can plan on roughly an hour drive if you're traveling from one of our Queens or Brooklyn locations. However, note that if you're flying into Long Island, we do have a car rental location there to accommodate your travel needs.
Ready to rent a car and explore Sagamore Hill on Long Island's Oyster Bay? Contact Empire Rent A Car at (800) 750-8782 to find out more about our cars, vans, and SUVs. We'd be glad to find just the right rental for your time on Long Island. You can also book online at your convenience.
